Any Connecticut voter can now vote by absentee ballot
You no longer need a reason. Since May 2026, every registered voter in Connecticut can ask for an absentee ballot for any election, primary or referendum.
Both links go to the Connecticut Secretary of the State. The paper application is in English and Spanish.

Apply
Apply online, or fill out the paper application and mail it or drop it off at the Greenwich Town Clerk.
Include your phone number or email. If something is wrong with your envelope, the Town Clerk can reach you to fix it.

Vote
The Town Clerk mails your ballot with one return envelope. Fill in the ovals completely, like the one at the top of this page.

Return
Put your ballot in the return envelope, then sign and print your name on the outside. Mail it, hand it to the Town Clerk, or use a Greenwich drop box.

Avoid the common mistakes
After the 2020 primary I sent thousands of texts with a short how-to video. Rejected absentee ballots in Greenwich dropped from 2% to half a percent. Most rejections are easy to avoid:
- Sign the return envelope and print your name. An unsigned envelope can't be counted unless you fix it in person by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
- Use the envelope that came with your ballot. It carries your ballot's ID number. Connecticut now uses a single envelope.
- One ballot per envelope. Don't put your spouse's ballot in with yours.
- Don't cut it close. A ballot that arrives after 8 p.m. on Election Day is not counted, even if it was mailed in time.
- Put a return address on the envelope. It lets the Town Clerk identify a ballot that arrives late or damaged.
- Vote only once. After you return an absentee ballot, don't also vote in person. Each voter's ballot is matched against the voter list.

Where it goes
Every Greenwich absentee ballot goes to the Greenwich Town Clerk, Town Hall, 101 Field Point Road, Greenwich, CT 06830. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Phone 203-622-7700.

Can someone else drop it off for me?
Only certain people can. If you're ill or disabled, a family member who lives with you can return your ballot, or someone caring for you, such as a doctor or nurse.
A town police officer or a Registrar of Voters (or a deputy or assistant registrar) can also return it. Nobody else may handle your completed ballot.
